At an early age, I was not exactly a superstar athlete. In fact, throughout grade school and most of high school, I was probably an average athlete at best. The turning point for me was when I began weight training at the age of 17 and started to notice significant changes in how I felt, looked, and performed. Since then I have been a fitness fanatic!
Today I have over 15 years of experience in fitness training and coaching. I have had the opportunity to train a wide range of individuals ranging in ages from 6 to 80, and ranging from sedentary beginners to Olympic athletes.
My graduate research experience has helped instill a deep understanding of how the body reacts to resistance and endurance training. I have been fortunate enough to put these principles to use in the form of programs that aid in the recovery from and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries.
As a trainer, there is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing a person progress, improve, and exceed their own expectations. The most important lesson I have realized is that there is no ONE magical program that works for everyone. Each person is unique with different natural abilities, goals and limitations. With this in mind, I custom design every training program specifically to meet each person’s needs and assist him/her in reaching their own health, fitness/athletic and physique goals. When I started CrossFit I immediately fell in love with the challenge it presented. The huge variation of the workouts constantly gives you the opportunity to improve yourself– not just in terms of physical fitness, but mentally as well. Another thing I love about CrossFit is the amazing community it creates, which I am very excited to be a part of here at Royal City!
I am currently in my 3rd year at the University of Guelph in the Nutritional and Nutraceutical Sciences program. Moving into the future I hope to continue my CrossFit certifications to not only become a better coach but to become a better athlete myself. After I finish school it is my goal to somehow blend my passion for both nutrition and fitness in order to help people in all aspects of health.

Danielle Haskett – Trainer
After graduating University and well past my competitive dance years, I had been strength training for over two years when I started to become bored of my typical body builder routine. When a friend suggested trying out a CrossFit boot camp I kind of rolled my eyes thinking it would be a pretty easy ordeal. After my first class and half a Cindy completed, I was hooked right away (and sore for the next week)! I fell in love with the constantly varied, high intensity workouts that CrossFit continually offers.
After a couple years of daily CrossFit, I made the transition to train at a more competitive level for Regionals 2014/15 to participate on a team. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoy Olympic Weightlifting and have competed at a provincial level and qualified at a National level for 2014/15.
As a coach I enjoy working with all individuals to help them meet their personal goals and ensure they are practicing CrossFit in the safest manner possible. Watching people grow and develop into better athletes daily continually motivates me to be the best coach and athlete possible.

Jake Domm – Trainer
I began my athletic career heavily immersed in sport, playing soccer, rugby and tennis. Through the needs of sport I slowly discovered my love for strength training, which became my sole athletic focus through university. It wasn’t until my third year of university, after more than 7 years of strength training that I began to miss the community and competitive aspects of team sports. So I decided to join a crossfit gym!
My first ever crossfit workout after joining a crossfit gym had muscle ups in it. I spent 30 minutes trying to get a single ring muscle up, and FINALLY got one muscle up. I remember the feeling of struggling through the muscle ups with everyone else in that class, who ranged from high school students to 70 years old individuals, all working together and cheering each other on. Crossfit immediately hooked me by providing an amazing platform to enjoy and push through workouts together with people of all types and ages.
Since then my love of crossfit has only grown, encouraging me to compete in the crossfit open, local competitions, powerlifting competitions and weightlifting competitions… all while meeting some amazing people, pushing myself beyond my limits and expanding what I think I am capable of. Our bodies and minds have much more potential than we give them credit for, and it is my honour to now coach athletes to enjoy the process of getting fitter and reaching their goals while in a supportive, comfortable community.

Danielle Stafford, Kids Trainer
I was first introduced to CrossFit in 2011. And while I enjoyed it, I found it difficult to fit it into my life with three small children. I re-discovered CrossFit in April 2013 and was hooked immediately. I attacked weaknesses, built on strengths, and most importantly, set goals for myself. I quickly noticed how much more fit I felt and how much more energy I had. In my recreational hockey games, the ice felt smaller and I had a lot more to give each game. I have noticed parallels in pushing through in CrossFit with everyday obstacles and challenges in life. CrossFit has given me the courage to tackle mud races – the first being Tough Mudder in 2014 and then it’s baby sister, Mudderella in 2015. Both were challenging and loads of fun. I’m looking forward to doing more, with like-minded people who want to challenge themselves. CrossFit truly has been good for my mind, body and soul.
I have always worked with children; mainly in the interest of improving their lives. It didn’t take long for me to want to share my enthusiasm for CrossFit with children; helping them to be healthy in their day-to-day lives. After attaining my CrossFit Kids Certification, I have enjoyed watching children embrace CrossFit and challenge themselves on varying levels. I strongly believe that children involved in CrossFit will develop a lifelong love of fitness, viewing activity as fun and challenging, rather than dreading it as many adults do. I am excited to continue to develop my kids’ program, on various levels, at Royal City CrossFit.

From a very young age, sports and performance have been a focal point of my day to day life. Growing up in a healthy, active family, I was taught the importance of activity and healthy eating from the get go. Throughout grade school and the earlier years of high school I participated in several organized sports. It wasn’t until the later years of high school that I discovered the importance of weights, and soon after, Crossfit.
I started Crossfit in 2010 when I was introduced to it through a friend. I immediately fell in love with two things above all else, the community aspect and the constantly varied, real life application of it. I believe that community is a severely overlooked importance in conventional gyms. However in Crossfit gyms around the world, like minded people gather every day to help push each other to their full potential. Through this phenomenon, we are not only able to enjoy our workouts more, but get more out of it physically, in less amount of time.
I am also a firm believer in the idea that real fitness is expressed outside of the gym. This is why I love the Crossfit style programming. It allows us to develop our general fitness skills and body awareness in a safe environment, through methods that are easily transferable to real life activities. Be it as simple as getting out of a chair effectively or knowing how to brace properly before picking up a small child, or a bag of groceries. It also allows us to enjoy life to the fullest, through more demanding and complex skills, such as snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing and much much more. Is it a coincidence that Crossfitters have an easier time picking up new skills? Doubtful! It’s more likely that through our style of training, unknown and unknowable, we are simultaneously training for every physical task, easy or difficult, that may ever arise in our lives.
I could talk for hours about how amazing I think this program is, and can be for anyone, but the most important thing I can say is to try it for yourself. It may change your life, and it may not, but you never know until you give it a shot!
